One farewell and two hellos
The team at the Abhayaratna Trust has recently changed.
Ghosaka stepped down at the end of October, and Dhinita has taken on the role of Director. We also welcome Pasadanita as our new Donor Support and Communications Co-ordinator.
Farewell Ghosaka
Ghosaka joined the Abhayaratna Trust early this year and quickly picked up the various threads of his new role (while putting together our annual report and annual review for the year before he arrived!)
He went on to successfully represent the Trust in the European Chairs Assembly and at this year’s UK and Ireland Combined Convention. Alongside this he’s been working with our agents in India to launch a new programme of grants for going on retreat. For the past couple of months, he’s also been covering Donor Support and Communications while recruiting a new team member. And more. It’s been a particularly busy year.
I’m very grateful to Ghosaka for stepping forward to help us this year. Being Director is not always an easy job, and I’ve particularly appreciated Ghosaka’s conscientiousness, diligence and straightforward approach.
While we’re sad to see Ghosaka go, we’re very pleased to have our new Director, Dhinita, already in post, to allow for a proper handover of responsibilities.
We wish Ghosaka well in his next project.
Dharmashura, Chair of the Abhayaratna Trust
Hello from Dhinita
I’m very motivated to have the opportunity to guide the next phase of the Abhayaratna Trust’s development. I look forward to working with the trustees and the team to evolve the Trust, so that it can continue to support those in the Order facing hardship.
I’m offering the Abhayaratna Trust my commitment and experience of having worked as a director in three different health and social care charities. For example, I was founding director of Rainbow Mind, leading the development of the organisation and its mental health services for 5 and a half years. I’ve also been a trustee and Chair and Co-Chair with the British Association of Mindfulness Approaches.
I’ve been involved in Triratna for over a decade through the North London Buddhist Centre (NLBC) and the London Buddhist Centre (LBC). I’ve been supporting teams, and more recently leading courses and other activities. My teaching at NLBC has included Buddhism and other courses at the centre’s therapy and yoga space. Contributing to building sangha and supporting others to have access to the Dharma motivates me greatly, whether through helping centre teams or at Tiratanaloka.
Having been recently ordained (on the three-month retreat at Akashavana last year), I have felt drawn to wanting to be immersed in the Three Jewels. I’m glad to be in a role in which I can serve the Order, supporting the development of a culture of care and expressing 'metta in action' in concrete terms.
Hello from Pasadanita
I’m delighted to be joining the team at the Abhayaratna Trust as the new Donor Support and Communications Co-ordinator. As an Avalokitesvara practitioner, I see the Trust as one of Avalokitesvara’s arms at work in the world. My new role will give me the chance to contribute to that work, and I really appreciate being given that opportunity.
I’ve been working in team-based right livelihood for the past seven years; most recently at the Cambridge Buddhist Centre, and before that, at Windhorse Publications. My career path prior to right livelihood was in education and educational publishing.
I first met Triratna in 2014, at the Bury St Edmunds group. I had an immediate strong response to the Dharma, and I knew straight away that I’d ‘come home’. I was ordained in June 2023 on the long retreat at Akashavana, with Viryajyoti as my private preceptor. My name, Pasadanita, means ‘She who is led by confidence and clarity’.
I live in Cambridge, in a women’s community, and I play an active role in the Cambridge sangha. In my spare time, I enjoy several creative hobbies, including mantra chanting and drawing mandalas. I’ve also set myself the challenge of reading the entire Complete Works of Sangharakshita in volume order. I recently started Volume 3, so I’ve still got a long way to go!
