December 2025 News

A message from Dharmashura

As we approach the end of the year it's customary to look back at what we've achieved over the past twelve months. The headline for the Abhayaratna Trust is that we've helped some 225 Order members in financial hardship around the world. And I'm so very grateful to all those who have helped to make this possible: our donors, our team and our trustees.

But I also want to look forward – to our helping even more Order members in 2026. So, if you are an Order member in need of financial help, please do get in touch with us. Or, if you know such an Order member, please encourage them to contact us. Or maybe even approach us (with their agreement) on their behalf. We have tried to make the process as easy as possible. The starting point is on our website here: Get Support , or you can email kshantika@abhayaratnatrust.org.

The constant exchanging of gifts

As Sangharakshita pointed out, one indication that we are functioning as a sangha is the constant exchanging of gifts between its members. Since I began working for the Abhayaratna Trust I have been amazed by the consistent response to our appeals to help Individual Order members with specific needs for financial help. This year has been no different. A recent appeal run by the Abhayaratna Trust reached the £4,000 target in less than 24 hours.

Of course, you don’t have to wait for us to run an appeal. The majority of the work that the Abhayaratna Trust carries out, is in giving grants to applicants of up to £1,500 for a variety of needs. This work is not publicised and is only made possible by our regular monthly donors and by those who have kindly left a legacy to the Abhayaratna Trust.

The recipients of your generosity time and again express their gratitude and how it has helped them feel that they are part of a supportive sangha. The Abhayaratna Trust team as well as our trustees are also very grateful for your support of the work that we do. So, on behalf of us all at the Abhayaratna Trust a very big thank you to all of our supporters. Wishing you well for the coming year.

The team: Mahasraddha (director), Kshantika (grants coordinator), Visarada (finance officer), and myself (donor communications).

Our trustees: (Dharmashura (chair), Shraddhalocani, Shantisthana, Dayasara, Padmajata and Kavyamani

A message from Mahasraddha

In this video Mahasraddha, director of the Abhayaratna Trust, thanks all our supporters for their ‘generosity, interest and care’. He talks about some of what the Trust has been able to achieve over the last year, due to your support in financial, practical and other ways.

Also, that with your continuing support there is much more the Abhayaratna Trust will be able to do in helping Order members worldwide.

A message from Kshantika

Kshantika took over the role of Grants and Care coordinator from Taradakini in August this year. We asked her to say something about her experience so far. In this short video she talks of how the flow of generosity that is possible within the Order touches her heart.

'Having been in the role of grants/care coordinator for a few months I have made this video to express appreciation.'  Kshantika

We need to look after each other

The Abhayaratna Trust has been fortunate enough to receive a substantial legacy over the last year. This means we are currently on a good footing financially and are able to plan for the future. Some people have told us that they have included the Abhayaratna Trust in their will. We asked Sanghadeva if he would make a short video, saying why he chose to include the Abhayaratna Trust in his will.

Please have a look and consider leaving a legacy to the Trust, so that we will be able to continue supporting Order members well into the future. And if you have not already told us that you plan to leave us a legacy, then please let me know: jinavamsa@abhayartanatrust.org  Thank you
